South Side man charged with murder in March shooting

CHICAGO — A South Side man has been charged with murder in the March shooting of a 25-year-old man, a police statement said Saturday.

According to police Alexander Gonzalez, 25, of the 11000 block of South Ave. B, was arrested in connection to a murder that occurred on March 25 after witnesses identified him as one of the offenders who engaged in a physical altercation with a 25-year-old man.

The victim was shot multiple times and was later pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Hospital, according to police.

Gonzalez has been charged with first degree murder, as well as one felony count of possession of a controlled substance, which was found at the time of his arrest, the statement said.

Police did not provide a mugshot of Gonzalez. He is due in bond court Sunday.
