RALEIGH, N.C. — The movie adaptation hasn’t even come out yet, but “50 Shades of Grey” is making its appearance in other ways — like at popular chain store Target.
According to ABC11 in Raleigh, N.C., area Target stores are selling specially marketed massage oil, a blindfold set, lubricant, and a vibrating love ring — all based on the film.
The items are coming as a shock to some customers.
“I would feel uncomfortable if I was walking with my parents and passed that in Target,” shopper Lisa Simonelli told the station.
According to ABC11, at one of the stores, the merchandise is placed right next to the shampoo.
“Our stores were directed to place them on a side cap in an adult health area of the store,” Target spokesperson Molly Snyder reportedly said. The company stands by the sales and notes that the sales are not exclusive to Target.
Some shoppers did tell ABC11 they didn’t think it was a big deal.
“We don’t have no moral objection to it,” shopper Jay Kniffen told the station. “Couples should be able to do whatever they want to do.”
