Soldier Field introduces new security measures ahead of football season

CHICAGO — New security measures are in place at Soldier Field, where Chicago Bears fans taking part in Family Fest today.

This season, fans must pass through metal detectors and undergo bag searches. Small handbags and clear plastic bags are allowed. However large bags such as backpacks will not be allowed.

Also, coolers will not be permitted inside the stadium this season.

Due to the heightened security, Soldier Field is asking fans to arrive earlier than in seasons past.

The Bears open their 2016-17 season Sept. 11 at the Houston Texans. Their home opener will be the following week, Sept. 19 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.
