Snowy Owls are showing up in force around the Chicago area this winter.

Local bird watchers were thrilled to see one last Saturday at Montrose Harbor where it was resting on a dock, and appeared not to mind the excitement it was causing.

The Snowy Owl is a raptor that typically stays close to its Arctic home.

But recently Snowy Owls have migrated further south, possibly an indication their diet of small rodents might be in short supply supply in the Arctic.
