The Smithsonian is telling visitors to leave their "selfie sticks" at home.

The metal rods attach to iPhones so people can take photos of themselves, while capturing what's behind them -- without being cropped out of the frame.

Officials at the Smithsonian National Museum says the sticks can damage their exhibits or hurt other people.

"Selfie sticks" are already banned at a number of museums across the country.
