Smash-and-grab at jewelry store in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, Ill. — Police are investigating after a jewelry store was hit by smash-and-grab thieves.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday night, thieves broke into the Jared Galleria of Jewelry on the 3600 blk. of East Main Street in St. Charles.

Employees said three suspects came into the store and a forth waited at the front door.

According to police, the offenders used hammers to smash a display case and steal jewelry.

Five employees and two customers were present during the robbery and were not harmed.

Police believe the suspects fled in a light blue Dodge Caravan.  The van in the incident is also believed to have been stolen earlier in the night from Batavia.

The driver’s side window of the van was broken out when it was stolen.

Investigators are working to determine what the robbers stole.
