The tornadoes that tore through Diamond and Coal City are bringing back memories of another devastating storm that nailed the area.
A cyclone hit in 1948, and virtually carved the same path as Sunday’s storm.
The 1948 twister ripped apart farmhouses lining Illinois Route 113, tossed farming equipment, and killed livestock.
“It was unreal to watch that happening before your eyes. It’s like seeing a plane crash,” said survivor John Heavens.
