CHICAGO – Chicago police are still trying to piece together the events that led up to a shootout and car chase in Wrigleyville early Sunday morning.  Before it was over, several cars were damaged, one person was injured, and one person in police custody.

Chicago police say more than 30 -- and as many as 50 -- shots were fired between a group of people walking near Racine and Patterson and another group of people in a passing car around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

The gunfire startled local residents like Shaina Daniels, who said she thought it was firecrackers celebrating a local holiday bar crawl the night before.

Police say the driver of the vehicle sped away from the scene, slamming into at least one car and sideswiping several others. Forrest Nelson says his son's car was parked on the street and suffered significant damage.

Police officers responding to the scene fired several shots of the getaway car, which was recovered a few miles away. Residents here say they're not used to shoot-outs and cars speeding out of control.

Police say three guns were found at the scene and a 26-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and taken to a local hospital. Detectives are looking into whether the altercation might've started earlier in the evening at a local house party and carried out into the street.
