Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin addressed the long O’Hare airport security lines with WGN Morning News live from Washington D.C.m Thursday.

He said that the “meltdown” two weeks ago at the airport has since improved, but Memorial Day weekend will be the real test to see if the TSA controversy has subsided.

When asked about the source of the issue,  Durbin said that this is both an issue with management and Congress.

“Congress has to accept some responsibility for the mess we are in,” he said.

The senator explained that the idea of privatizing airlines is not the answer and the ultimate goal safety from terrorism.

“We need professionals doing this job to keep us safe on airplanes,” Durbin said.

Durbin also discussed transparency in national security and gun law. For more, watch the full WGN interview in the player above.
