The Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a new bipartisan bill this week aimed at slowing the flow of illegal guns.

Illinois Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin are among the key sponsors of the bill.  It is named for Chicago shooting victim Hadiya Pendleton.

The bill would impose stiff penalties for straw purchases, in which people buy guns with the intention of passing them to gang members or others.

The bill could reach the full Senate as early as April.
