PORTER BEACH, Ind. -- By air, and on the water, officials have transitioned into what they are now calling a “recovery effort” for 20-year-old Chase Froese of Carol Stream, Ill.
An adventurous young woman friends say loved the outdoors, Froese and two of her friends stopped at Porter Beach on their way to Grand Rapids, Mich.
The young women were swimming around 7 p.m. when a distress call came into 911.
Rescuers pulled the other two women to shore.
On Saturday boats towed teams of divers underwater, while the Coast Guard searched from above.
Officials say the search will start scaling back Saturday evening and wrap up by dusk.
They will come back Sunday, but say with the stormy conditions in the forecast, it could hinder the search.
