School worker killed trying to get student off of road

Police in Aurora are looking for the person who hit and killed a woman who was trying to help a runaway student.

It happened Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. near the Northern Illinois Academy in Aurora.

Theresa Burns and another staff member were helping the 18-year-old girl, as the student sat down in a lane of traffic.

Burns and the staff member were hit by a passing car.

Burns was killed, and the other staff member was treated at a hospital and released.

The driver left behind his 1997 Chevy Geo Metro.

Police say they have a good idea of who they are looking for, but they have yet to find him.

Northern Illinois Academy is a home and school for young people with psychiatric problems.
