SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — A man from Schaumburg is charged with dragging a woman into the woods at a popular suburban trail and sexually assaulting her.

Police said Ryan Patterson, 27, attacked a woman while she was walking in the Arthur L. Janura Forest Preserve in Elgin on May 30. A 48-year-old woman from Streamwood said Patterson knocked her to the ground and dragged her to a secluded area, before sexually assaulting her.

According to prosecutors, he told his victim that assaulting women in a forest preserve is “his sexual fetish.”

Patterson was arrested on June 11 and was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. He posted $150,000 bond Wednesday and was released from jail. He was ordered to submit to a curfew and GPS monitoring.

Investigators believe he may have attacked more people.

If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

Anyone who believes they may have encountered Patterson is urged to call Cook County Sheriff’s Police at: (708) 865-4896
