CHICAGO — Traffic is moving again Tuesday morning on the Stevenson Expressway after being shut down for hours following a fatal crash.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. Monday on the outbound lanes of I-55 between Pulaski Rd. and Cicero Ave.

Two semis, a van and two cars were involved in the accident, according to state police. One semi was carrying more than 17,800 pounds of paint, which fueled the fire.

A body was found in the van hours later after the fire, caused by the crash, had been extinguished.

The medical examiner is seeking public help in identifying the driver because the fire made it impossible to immediately determine the gender of the victim.

It appears the crash was a chain reaction, but it’s not clear which vehicle crashed first.
