KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals say pitcher Edinson Volquez plans to rejoin the team when the World Series shifts to New York.

Volquez was back home in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday for the funeral of his father. His dad died Tuesday, hours before Volquez started Game 1 in Kansas City against the Mets.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Wednesday that he expects Volquez will ready to pitch Game 5 at Citi Field.

Volquez pitched six effective innings in the opener, and the Royals wound up winning 5-4 in the 14th. Game 2 was Wednesday night.
