Robberies in Hyde Park prompt warning from police

CHICAGO -- An alert has been issued for University of Chicago students and nearby residents in Hyde Park after a string of robberies overnight.

Chicago police believe the same two men are responsible.

And at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, the pair came up from behind a student walking in the 5400 block of South Blackstone near Spruce Park and took his cell phone.

Later, police say the same two men got out of a dark colored sedan, possible a Chrysler, in the 1200 block of East 54th Street near Woodlawn and robbed two students, taking a laptop and their wallets.

A third incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. Friday near 52nd and S. Ingleside.  The suspects approached a person walking on the sidewalk, pulled out a gun and hit the victim with it.  The suspects then stole the victim’s book bag, according to police.

In all three of these robberies, victims described the suspects as black men between 17 to 20 years old, wearing jogging suits. one green and one blue.
