Robber with toy gun shot seven times by bakery owner with real gun

A suspect in a robbery of a Calumet City bakery was hospitalized after the owner of the bakery open fired during the heist.

Two suspects entered the Calumet City Bakery 154th and State Line Rd around 3:30 pm Tuesday. One suspected walked into the store on his cell phone then signaled to the second suspect who walked in behind him.

The first suspect brandished a gun and announced a robbery.

The clerk hands over the cash but then the suspect forced her to the back of the store where the owner was waiting. The owner had seen everything on closed-circuit TV.

The owner shot the suspect seven times.

The suspects fled. The wounded suspect was found a block away in his car. It was discovered he had been holding a toy gun.
The second suspect remains at large.

Police are not releasing a description.
