An apparent act of road rage on I-355.

A driver is accused of opening-fire on another motorist with his wife and two kids in the vehicle.

42 year-old Vaughn Atkins, of South Elgin, is charged with shooting at the other car in the southbound lanes of the tollway near Ogden Avenue on March 21st.

Authorities say Atkins became angry when the other vehicle cut him off, and forced him onto the shoulder of the roadway. They claim Atkins sped-up to the other car, told his wife to put down her window, and lean back so he could shoot out her window.

A bullet hit the other vehicle, but the driver wasn’t hurt.

Judge Richard Russo set bail at $200,000.
