Governor Bruce Rauner activated the Illinois National Guard to help with flood recovery efforts in southern Illinois.
Hundreds of people in Alexander County—at the southern-most tip of the state—evacuated after water went over the top of a levee.
A second levee could overflow as well.
The flooding in Illinois and Missouri was triggered by ten inches of rain that fell over three days.
In all, the governor toured six counties affected.
Rauner said he’ll visit more of the flooded areas through Sunday.
Twenty-two people have died from the flooding, seven in Illinois and 15 on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River.
Friday morning, crews discovered the body of a missing Christian County teen.
The body of 18-year-old Devan Everett was found in the floodwaters near Taylorville.
