Severe weather delays Cubs game, brings hail to some parts of the area

CHICAGO — The tarp came out at Wrigley Field Wednesday evening as severe storms approached the area.

A rain delay was called around 8:20 p.m. during the game against the Atlanta Braves. The game resumed around 9 p.m.

The rest of the Chicago area saw thunderstorms, rain and some parts saw hail.

Severe thunderstorms accompanied by torrential rains, strong winds and hail were sweeping across extreme northwest Indiana as well. Wind gusts were clocked to 65 mph at Dyer, Indiana, at 9:05pm. Dime size was reported shortly after 9 p.m. at Lansing along with wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect for northern Lake County until 9:45 pm and for central Lake County until 10 p.m.
