Proviso East coach suspended amid investigation

A high school basketball coach and security guard at Proviso East High School is suspended with pay while the school investigates disturbing charges.

WGN received access a cell phone video, appearing to show Nikerrah Walker being choked by the guard last Friday.

16 year-old Walker is currently on home suspension.

The high school junior says she was choked when the guard – identified as Donny Boyce – intervened during an argument between Walker and another student at lunch.

Proviso Township High Schools 209 released a statement, “While the staff member in question has been suspended with pay during the investigation, no further comment can be made as this is a personnel matter.”

The district and local law enforcement are investigating.

Walker and her mother say they don’t want Boyce to loose his job. They just want it to be known that choking a student is unacceptable.

Walker says she plans to transfer schools after completing her finals.
