CHICAGO — Northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway were briefly closed Thursday morning by protesters.

Pictures from social media show about two dozen protesters blocking the Dan Ryan at 95th Street about 10 a.m. Later they blocked a ramp at 87th Street.

Police issued citations to about two dozens protesters.

They’re angry over the state budget impasse and a lack of funding for Chicago State University.

They say the blocked lanes are symbolic of state lawmakers “blocking” their education.

Protesters say if a state budget is not approved CSU will run out of cash reserves in the next 30 days and be forced to shut down. University President Thomas Calhoun confirms those claims for the university, He says it’s the definitely the 11th hour.
