CHICAGO — Traffic is resuming in both directions after protesters tried to block Lake Shore Drive and Jackson Drive Saturday afternoon, according to police.
Police say the demonstrators claimed to be protesting the NFL Draft, which is taking place downtown. Social media posts appeared to show the protesters also speaking out against Chicago State University layoffs as well, and against Chicago Police officer Dante Servin, who fatally shot Rekia Boyd in 2012.
Seventeen of the roughly 50 protesters were arrested in the demonstrations, according to police.
This is a developing story. Please check back for more details.
