How often do you wash your pajamas? If this new poll is any indication, probably not a whole lot.

According to the Daily Mail, a new poll found the average man wears his pajamas for almost two weeks in a row before washing them, while women wear the same set for 17 days.

A professor of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Sally Bloomfield told the Daily Mail that wearing bed clothes for so long can lead to skin infections, cystitis and even MRSA.

She explains that we shed skin cells a large amount of skin cells, all the time, and that they are full of microorganisms.

“We all have skin and gut organisms that are usually not harmful on our skin and in our gut. But if they get into the wrong place they can cause problems,” Bloomfield said.

Bloomfield advises washing your pajamas once a week.

The poll, conducted by the memory foam mattress company Ergoflex, quizzed 2,410 British couples aged between 18 and 30 years old on their nightwear and washing habits. All the couples were in a relationship, but only 61 per cent said they shared a bed with someone on a nightly basis.
