GRIFFITH, Ind. — Two men are now charged in the shooting death of a teenage girl in northwest Indiana.

Giovante Galloway, 21 and his uncle Juarez Rogers face murder and attempted robbery charges in the death of Alayna Ortiz, 18.

The Portage High School student was shot in the head in the parking lot of a Griffith apartment complex on Jan. 9.

Investigators said Galloway owed Ortiz’s boyfriend William Hawkins money for marijuana.

Police said Galloway and Rogers plotted to rob the Hawkins of his money and drugs.

The two enlisted the help of three unidentified men from Chicago.

Police said the suspects followed Hawkins’ red SUV to the apartment complex. When they approached the SUV, Hawkins tried to drive off. It was then that a shot was fired hitting and killing Ortiz.

Police said someone with knowledge of the crime stepped forward and is now a cooperating witness.

Galloway was arrested Wednesday.

Police are still looking for Rogers.

Hawkins is being charged with a drug felony.
