Chicago police charged a 47-year-old man Wednesday in the 2009 criminal sexual assault and murder of a  12-year-old girl.

Rene Valentin-Mato was arrested after DNA recovered from a recent, unrelated sexual assault victim matched DNA evidence found at the scene of the 2009 homicide, police said. He also faces charges in the unrelated sexual assault.

The murder victim, 12-year-old Jahmeshia Conner, was reported missing by family members on November 15, 2009, after she failed to return home after visiting an aunt.  On November 30, 2009, police found Jahmeshia beaten and strangled behind a garage in Englewood.

Valentin-Mato is scheduled to appear in Central Bond Court on Thursday.
