WAUKEGAN, Ill.  -- Suburban police are asking for the public’s help after an officer was dragged by thieves in a stolen car.

A patrolling Waukegan police officer spotted a car reported stolen earlier Saturday night at a gas station. Other officers quickly responded and the situation escalated fast.  The car took off at a high rate of speed dragging one officer as he tries to stop the car.

Police say they pursued the car briefly, but broke off when it became unsafe.

An eyewitness filmed the incident.
