MAYWOOD, Ill. — A shootout that left a robbery suspect and two officers wounded is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

Police responded to a call of an armed robbery in progress around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Burger King restaurant located at 49 W. Lake Street.

The suspect ran outside, where two officers fired shots at him. Witnesses said it appeared the suspect was holding a BB gun, and saw him collapse on the street.

A bystander’s cellphone video captured the shooting, where more than a dozen gunshots could be heard.

The robbery suspect was transported to a hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two Maywood police officers were examined as a precaution, but were treated and released.

State police are conducting an independent investigation into the involved officer’s actions.
