CHICAGO — Authorities have provided an update about the remains found in the Garfield Park Lagoon in September.

Investigators say the remains belong to 2-year-old Kyrian Knox of Rockford. Knox was living with a family friend when he went missing on Sept. 5.

A toddler’s foot was found floating in the lagoon. Additional searches located a head and other remains.

There have been no arrests in Knox’s disappearance.

Knox’s family was notified Wednesday morning.

The FBI lab confirmed the results. Now this is officially classified as a CPD death investigation. Rockford police are handling the missing persons case. Detectives will be looking into how Knox was killed, how he was dismembered and how he got to the area.
