FORD HEIGHTS, Ill. — The pilot of a small plane has died after the plane crashed in the south suburbs Tuesday evening.

The medical examiner has identified him as 70-year-old Lawrence Jagmin from Frankfort.

The Federal Aviation Association said Jagmin’s single-engine Glasair III crashed under unknown circumstances approximately one-half mile southwest of the Lincoln Highway and Highway I-394 in Ford Heights.

The plane struck a light pole and hit a vehicle on the ground before coming to rest in an embankment, the FAA said.

Jagmin was airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he later died.

The FAA said they are investigating.
