EVANSTON, Ill. — A woman was taken into custody after a small bomb exploded in the bathroom of a Target store in Evanston.

Police say the 44-year-old woman is a person of interest in the blast at the store in the 2200 block of Howard Street Wednesday afternoon. So far, no charges have been filed.

No one was injured in the explosion. Damage was limited to a stall in the women’s bathroom.

Police say the source of the explosion may have been a plastic bottle that investigators found in the stall.

Police also say the explosion had nothing to company’s policy on transgender customers. Target has been criticized recently for its stance on allowing people to choose whichever bathroom they identify mostly with, either male or female.

In response, more than 1.3 million people signed an online petition promising to boycott Target.
