PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Park Ridge police are investigating to determine whether street racing may have played a role in a multi-vehicle crash that injured four people.

It happened near the intersection of Cumberland and Devon around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a 20-year-old man from Park Ridge was driving a Chevy SUV at a high speed when he ran a red light and hit an Audi. The Audi was driven by a 24-year-old woman also from Park Ridge.

After striking the Audi, the Chevy hit a tree and a light pole. It also flipped at least once. Two passengers, an 18-year-old female and a 20-year-old male, were ejected from the Chevy.

The driver of the Chevy and his two passengers were taken to Lutheran General Hospital.  The 20-year-old man required emergency surgery to reduce swelling on the brain. The father of the 18-year-old girl says she suffered multiple fractures, but she should be okay.  The SUV driver’s injuries are not believed to be serious. The Audi driver was treated for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.  Police have determined that drugs or alcohol were not involved.
