Opening statements begin today in the trial of a man charged with beating two women with a baseball bat.

Natasha McShane and Stacy Jurich were beaten unconscious under a viaduct in Bucktown in 2010.

McShane’s family returned from Northern Ireland to face the man accused of the attack.

McShane still can’t walk or talk, but Jurich is expected to testify.

Heriberto Viramontes is charged with attempted murder and armed robbery.

Marcy Cruz, who pleaded guilty for her role in the attack, is expected to testify against him.
