CHICAGO — The deadly storms in Texas not only hit families hard, but also their pets. A Chicago animal rescue is helping animals who were displaced after the deep freeze in Texas.

WGN’s Marcella Raymond met with some of the dogs who are going into their foster homes.

One of the dogs she met was named Kolby. Kolby is one of 15 dogs rescued during the destructive storms just south of Austin. The shelters were overwhelmed.

One Tail at a Time was contacted by shelters in the area that were struggling and didn’t have enough supplies for the animals.

The rescue got the dogs out of a terrifying situation and brought them to Chicago where they went through a full medical exam before being put up for adoption.

It can be an adjustment coming from a rural area to the big city. Some of the dogs have never lived in a house and need to get acclimated.

After a couple of days to decompress in foster homes, the dogs are ready for a permanent home.
