CHICAGO — A man is critically injured after a police-involved shooting in West Garfield Park.

The incident happened in the 3900 block of West Wilcox Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said officers were responding to a disturbance call in the area, when they approached the 25-year-old man. The man then fled from police and pulled out a gun, that's when the officer shot him in the leg, police said.

The man was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

It is unclear if the 25-year-old fired the weapon, but police said they recovered a handgun on the scene.

The officer involved was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is now investigating. The officer will be on desk duty for 30 days during the investigation.
