Off-duty officer rescues boy, 7, from Des Plaines River

An off-duty Evanston police officer rescued a 7-year-old boy from the Des Plaines River.

The Sun-Times reports officer Sean O’Brien was driving near river road and miner street Tuesday afternoon, when he saw the boy running.

He followed the boy as he went to the bank of the river, and threw a snowball in.

Then the boy jumped into the water.

The officer went in after him.

He brought the boy to his car, and called an ambulance.

The boy was taken to the hospital in good condition.
