WASHINGTON – President Obama plans to tighten gun laws this year without congressional help.

He’s expected to announce an executive order closing the so-called “gun show loophole.”

It allows certain gun sellers to skip buyer background checks at shows.

The measure would also add funding to help local police enforce existing gun laws.

Gun control advocates say the president will explain the action at his State of the Union address on January 12.
