EVANSTON, Ill. — A Northwestern University police lieutenant is facing child pornography charges after he allegedly took inappropriate photos of a young girl and sent sexual messages to her on social media.
According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Ronald Godby, 53, has been charged with child pornography following an investigation by the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Mount Prospect Police Department.
Prosecutors say Godby, who in addition to his work as a police officer also has a home photography business, is accused of using his relationship with a family friend to take photos of a 13-year-old girl. Some of the photos were “sexual in nature,” according to the state’s attorney’s office.
According to prosecutors, Godby also began communicating with the girl on Facebook and other social media platforms and sent her sexually suggestive photos.
Prosecutors said the alleged victim told classmates of the communication and they reported it to a teacher, who contacted law enforcement.
Godby’s bond was set at $100,000. His next court date is Feb. 26.
