Easter weekend in Chicago was a violent one.

Police say nine people were killed and 36 were wounded in shootings across the city.

In one case, five children were shot while walking home from a park on the South Side Sunday night.

Police say someone in a car drove up to the group at 66th and Michigan, asked them if they were in a gang and started shooting before the kids could answer.

11-year-old Tymisha Washington was the most seriously wounded.

She suffered a punctured lung and a broken collarbone.

Another girl was shot in the stomach.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy called it a difficult weekend but said he believes the shooter will be caught.

McCarthy blames the city’s violence on lax gun laws.
