2 injured after Postal Service semi, SUV collide in Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. —  Northbound lanes of Route 83 are back open after a head-on collision early Wednesday morning between a U.S. Post Office semi-trailer and an SUV.

It happened at about 1 a.m. on Route 83 and North Frontage Road in Elmhurst, about a half mile north of I-290.

The male driver of the SUV had to be extricated and airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The driver of the postal service semi was also injured and transported by ambulance to Elmhurst Hospital.

State police are investigating the accident.
