COLORADO – Nearly 200 Muslim workers were fired from a meat-packing plant in Colorado over a prayer dispute.

Cargill Meat Solutions says it started last week, when 11 of the workers wanted to pray all at one time. The company told them they couldn’t, because it would stop production.

The workers left and prayed anyway. After that 190 employees stopped working in protest. The company warned them they would be fired if they failed to show up to work for a third day yesterday.

The council on American-Islamic relations says the workers were discriminated against. The company says it makes every attempt to provide religious accommodations to all employees, without disrupting business.
