A mother charged with trying to suffocate her child at a cemetery on the north side is in jail on $1 million dollars bond.

24-year-old Mary Ryan is accused of attempting to kill her 4-year-old daughter with a plastic bag at Rosehill Cemetery yesterday.

Prosecutors say Ryan then tried to commit suicide, but changed her mind and started to perform CPR on her daughter.

She flagged down a police officer, who escorted her to a hospital.

The child suffered a cut to her eye and a sore neck.

State officials placed the child with her maternal grandmother.

DCFS recently placed Ryan`s other child with that child`s biological father.
