Elk Grove Village mother accused of killing 3-year-old son denied bond

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. — A judge denied bond Saturday for the Elk Grove mother accused of killing her 3-year-old son. Police are also searching for a second person of interest.

22-year-old Joy Ramos is charged with first degree murder and  two counts of aggravated battery to a child.

Ramos took her unconscious son, Steven Figueroa, to the hospital Wednesday, where he died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner says Figueroa, 3, suffered heavy trauma to his abdomen, and ruled his death a homicide.

DCFS says it’s investigating Ramos for abuse and neglect.

Elk Grove police also want to talk to James Jones. His last known address was in Hoffman Estates, but police say he’s frequently in the northwest suburbs.
