COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — A mother is furious after a teacher sent her 4-year-old son home on the bus in his underwear in 40-degree weather.
The incident happened at Feldwood Elementary School in Georgia.
The boy’s mother, Janet Burgo, is speaking out and saying the school didn’t do enough to prevent her son from being humiliated.
“Every time I talk to him he would get this sad look and say “my teacher put me on the bus in my underwear,” Burgo said.
She says her son was traumatized and humiliated after he had an accident that soiled his pants Friday afternoon at school.
According to school officials, the teacher resigned and the school principal sent parents a voice message saying, the pre-k student was put on the bus with a sweatshirt tied around his waist to conceal his underwear while alternative clothing was located.
Somehow he was put on his daycare bus before that clothing was found.
The school says:
“We’re still investigating how this situation occurred but please know this was very unacceptable, the staff member involved is no longer employed by our school or the school district.”
Burgo thinks the district should’ve terminated that teacher. She also thinks other teachers who saw her son without any pants on should be held accountable.
“Teachers are mandated reporters, how do you walk by a school of teachers and get on a bus in your underwear in 40 degree weather?”
