JOLIET, Ill. — A vigil was held Wednesday evening after a 16-year-old girl from Joliet was found dead in the Des Plaines River.

Lesly Reynoso was last seen early Sunday morning around 4 a.m. when she was picked up by a teenager who said he dropped her off near Briggs Road and Interstate 80. Police said her body was recovered from the river Tuesday evening.

The candlelight vigil was held at the Spanish Community Center. Supporters are raising money to help Reynoso’s family pay for her funeral.

Reynoso’s father, Eduardo Reynoso, said his pain is beyond measure. He said he had a feeling in his gut that something was wrong.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday, but the cause of death remains under investigation.

Police said the investigation is open and ongoing.
