CHICAGO — Metra Railways is helping families take cheaper trips this Memorial Day.

Children, ages 11 and under, can ride for free with an adult beginning this weekend through Labor Day. That’s an expansion of the Family Fares program.

Metra’s $8 weekend pass will be good on Memorial Day too.

The company is offering early getaway trains on Friday for riders who can’t wait to get their holiday weekend going.

Most lines are adding and shifting trains to the early afternoon.

Metra will be operating a Sunday/holiday schedule on Memorial Day.

That means there will be no service on the North Central Service, Heritage Corridor and SouthWest Service lines.
