WAUKEGAN, Ill. -- The widow of disgraced Fox Lake Police Lt. Joe Gliniwicz was back in court today. And the Lake County State's Attorney's office learned it will have to prosecute the case against her without what could have been an important piece of evidence.

The judge ruled that text and email messages between Melodie Gliniewicz and her late husband will not be admissible.

The judge also continued until June 13 a hearing on Melodie Gliniewicz' bid to have the charges against her dismissed.

She is asking the court to throw out allegations that she participated with her husband in stealing thousands of dollars from a police youth program.

Joe Gliniewicz staged his suicide in 2015, to make it look like he was killed in the line of duty.

Melodie Gliniewicz is charged with unlawful use of charitable funds, conspiracy and money laundering.
