HAVANA, Ill. — An invasion of Mayflies has led to some dangerous driving conditions in Havana, Illinois.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Havana Police Department shared photos of Mayflies blanketing a bridge over the Illinois River and bugs swarming a local squad car.

Police said at one point the Mayflies piled 6 inches high, and when run over, they became very slick. The bugs have already caused cars to get stuck on the bridge and motorcycle accidents.

The City of Havana Street Department and IDOT are working with police to get the situation under control.
