FOREST VIEW, Ill. — A massive fire is now under control in southwest suburban Forest View.
The fire started Tuesday around 10 p.m. at Lakeshore Recycling Systems, at 6201 West Canalbank. The dry air and strong winds are said to have contributed to the fire.
At its height, the fire could be seen from I-55, between Central and Harlem.
Most of what was burning was recyclable materials.
The recycling center itself is said to still be intact.
There’s no word yet on how the fire started. No one was hurt.
The fire chief says there’s a limited water supply in the area– so they brought in a Chicago Fire Department boat to pour water from the sanitary and shipping canal.
