A man was struck and killed by Metra BNSF train in west suburban Downers Grove Tuesday morning.

Police say an eastbound train hit the man just before 10 a.m. Tuesday near the Forest Avenue Crossing.

He died at the scene but his name has not been released.

About an hour after the accident, passengers on the train involved in the incident were transferred to another train and continued on to Chicago.

Officials say the Forest Avenue Crossing does have crossing gates, but it’s not known whether they may have malfunctioned in any way.
